I'm going down to Nashville, TN to run two sessions on storytelling for ATD Core 4. Transforming Experiences Into Stories - November 15th, 11 am CST Session Description: What you’ve learned from your experiences continues to shape your life and influence your decisions. By sharing what you’ve learned, others can learn too and may be more willing to share their own lessons. In this session, you’ll learn strategies for transforming experiences into stories and encouraging your learners to share their stories. Bringing Narratives for Learning to Life - November 16th, 11 am CST
Writing narratives is a skill separate from instructional design—one that must be deliberately learned and practiced. During this session, you’ll have the opportunity to explore writing compelling character-driven narratives. We’ll begin by defining compelling and what qualities your narratives must have to hit the mark. Then, we’ll discuss how to find inspiration for stories. The next step is to use a character-driven approach to developing a story, since we know that characters are often proxies for the learners. Finally, you’ll employ tools and templates to use what learners want to build a character and then build a story that describes the journey between where the character is now and where they want to be.
